It was all so different. This barren land. So different to where I had grown up. So different from the towering, lush green trees. The ground was freezing and wet beneath my soaking black paws. It was the good time of the year.. before the slush.. It was just.. too cold. It was so.. bland. So.. white. I missed the green trees! The cool breeze that was often there when warm, and the warm breeze when it was cold... I could hide there. Here.. there was nowhere, nothing but the chill of snow reaching up to my belly. There was nothing to protect me from the dangers of life but my quick legs which weren`t so quick with the height of the snow, and the short length of my legs battling it out. I prowled the lands day in, and day out, but I never found anything. This feeling of being alone was nagging at me making even the soft wind sounds make me jump and run until I felt like dying from the exhaustion on my small legs. I continued walking in hope of finding another life form, but I was close to giving up. It had been days since I`d opened my eyes and found myself here, buried and surrounded by snow and nothing had caught my eye. What was weird was I hadn`t even bumped into a Savage, and that was odd. But, I knew one would come one day eventually. They existed all over the place.. It would just take time to see one. I yawned, my tongue stretching out of my mouth and curling up at the end, picking up some snow that chilled my teeth so much I jumped. I closed my mouth, my black eyes squinting shut for a moment before they opened again to look around me. The sun warmed my dark grey pelt and I padded on for some time more until I slipped and tumbled down and into a den. Snow followed me, and soaked my pelt, something I wasn`t in the mood for. But, once it melted and my body began to dry.. I was able to relax a bit. I sniffed about and realized that a creature was recently in here, so I didn`t stay long. Just long enough I could rest my aching, freezing legs and paws before I had to go back out in the bright, white world. When I was warm enough I raised to my paws and crawled out of the den and went a bit further in the direction i had been going for as long as I can remember. I peered up at the sky, my head, seemingly large on my shrunken neck tilted upwards, my narrow snout raised to the sky. The bright orb in the sky, the sun, was beginning to head down in the west for the night, and I knew it would start to get even colder with the lack of what little heat the sun may provide on a day like this. I shook my head, whipping an annoying sound away with my large ears. I looked around, yet again, for shelter for the night. There was nothing in sight. I looked around in all the holes, the burrows, -being careful not to fall into any in case there was a creature hiding- and found one with a scent as stale as a few weeks old. I supposed that it was uninhabited now and that I had scored a home for the night where I wouldn`t have to be out in the open and lose sleep. I crawled in, it was a little small for my liking, but it was also cozy and I didn`t feel so alone. I relaxed and let my eyes close for the night. I didn`t sleep though.. I just rested. I feared the den owner would return and I would have to leave, despite the stale scent of abandonment. I just couldn`t relax! I wasn`t terrified.. but I still couldn`t sleep. |

You have got to be kidding me… Ofall places Ayame had to end up, it would be this one. Her limber bodice flew over the barren plains like a bird in flight. Mumbling to herself, she was the least bit happy with her whereabouts. Seeing some more trees would be nice, considering there were only a handful scattered as far as the eye could see. The vixen did not enjoy being in a land she was unfamiliar with, let alone an unfamiliar land without any shelter. For her, staying hidden was vital. Her vibrant russet pelt was known to attract attention, for better and for worse. The only other creatures she had come in contact with her deer, small rodents, a couple of birds, but really nothing that could pose a threat. Pink tongue dangling from her muzzle, she slowly began to feel overheated from the massive amounts of running she had done that day. Truth be told, her muscles were screaming in rejection and begging her to stop. Reluctantly, she navigated herself to a cluster of dense trees.
Lifting her snout to the air, Ayame could not grasp many scents. The wind was in her favor this evening, as the gusts were at a minimum. This way, her aroma would be hidden and, hopefully, she would be able to take a decent rest without any interruptions. Walking forward a few paces more, her cranium quickly shot to the left. I see I have some company.. Well, not quite see, exactly. After all, it was extraordinarily dark, and even her sharp eyes couldn’t pierce some areas of the darkness. With a flop, her rump landed with a soft thud against the dusty turf. If she had been in better condition, she would most likely investigate. She simply adored her alone time, but was very inquisitive as well. Usually she would be eager to jump at this opportunity of a new friend, foe, or whoever this other canine might turn out to be; but this time….they would have to come to her.
ooc; shucks, I hope I'm not too rusty.

After a short amount of time resting, I opened my black eyes to a bright hole in the den. I muttered complaints to myself about said brightness and groggily clawed my way out. I as fairly warm, being in that tight of a space for so long, so the cold hit me like a bullet. A shiver licked down my spine and I let out a faint whimper. I got used to it though, very soon, land continued on my way. I padded through the snow, it either had grown thinner or more solid as I grew to be walking on it, not in it. The cold no longer reached my white belly, in fact, it barely reached past my toes! I felt better now than I had before with that going on and all, no longer soaked, freezing legs! As I walked, and walked... and walked. I came upon an area with, by-gone-it... trees! A cluster of trees! Yes, it was nothing close to the lush effervescent, plentiful trees of home.. but well.. they were trees! They held more shelter than anything I had seen so far, and made my heart leap right up and into my throat. I was so excited to see even that glimmer of hope, of being so close to the transition zone from desert to trees! I bounded happily, and ran throughout the little cluster. I spotted a russet pelt then, and my fur leaped on end. Oh no, another creature. A savage? Didn't seem so. My tail ran right between my legs. and I backed up, my breath wheezing, as usual, even though now more than before from the fear suddenly running through my body. Then, I calmed down, assuring myself this other canine wouldn't harm me. She seemed bland enough she wouldn't attack. I crept forward, weaving through the trees and sneaking my way over. I hid behind a tree and peered around it, for a second to see the front of her, then I shot back, hiding again. I yearned to talk to her, just for the sake of speaking since I hadn't in so long. I dreaded that too. Would she demand to much? Would she be threatening? There was one way to find out, but that way scared me. I couldn't even say hi. She'd probably laugh at my voice too..
ooc:Sorry for taking so long! D: Got distracted >.< |

Muzzle stretching wide open, Ayame heaved a big yawn after arousing from her slumber. The ground was hard and cold, to her dismay, and snow had fallen over night. It was not of powdery substance, but rather a solid type that one would be able to walk on. Opening her eyes, she scanned the terra around her. Why did he have to wake me…just a few more minutes! Slumping her shoulders forward, she shuffled to her feat. Ayame clumsily stumbled forward, her muscles seemingly frozen—well, just really cold—from the unfortunate weather and left her temporarily immobile. I feel like an old hag.. she grumbled under her breath, quietly enough that no one else would hear her. Paying no attention to the creature that was scurrying around in the brush, she focused on stretching her gangly limbs. Because honestly, what good would they be if they could barely keep her standing?
”If you plan on hiding from me, you should at least try a little harder than that.” This was the first time she spoke aloud. She hadn’t even turned her head to face him; if he intended to be threat, he would have made a move by now. If anything, she could smell the fear that drenched the air around him. Her alto-toned voice was carried across the airwaves; confidence was evident in her words, or so it seemed, and she didn’t waver. Her words weren’t harsh, but they had a slight aura of mocking entwined between them. Silence rang for a few seconds before she finally decided to turn around.
Though the area was incredibly dismal, at least in her opinion, the sunlight and sky would always be beautiful no matter where you were—you could be in a wasteland and everyone would still be under that same old sky. Allowing herself to be distracted, she looked up into the tree canopies; rays of light streaked down and danced against her shiny coat. A few birds moved restlessly in their locations, twittering wildly. "So, you there. What’s your name?" Typically she wasn’t that pleasant during first impressions, but she preferred for her first encounter with another canine in this new land to be a positive one. She could always make as many enemies as she wanted later. And, perhaps, he would know something about the area they were in. He could be a useful asset. "I’m Ayame. I’ll give you the pleasure of knowing my calling first." After such a long period of distraction, she finally turned her gaze to the bushy area where the strange canine was hiding.
ooc; naw guuurl, it's cool. I just have an overly large amount of time on my hands. xD

My fur bristled and my skin warmed. I had to admit, this hadn't been my best hiding spot, but still! She could have cut me a break, because I was painfully, and obviously a chicken. I crawled out from behind the tree, my almighty 24 inches shortened as I stuck low to the ground, readying myself to run if I needed. I didn't quite know this canine, and was, as usual, afraid of her. Although, I did realize how she wasn't being hostile... not too hostile anyways. So, therefore, I allowed myself to relax ever so slightly. I sat down, which was bold enough for me. Ayame... that was a nice name... I didn't respond to her question. Not immediately at least, afraid of yet more things. Afraid of her reaction to when I would speak, if I spoke. My voice.. the wheezy, scratchy... embarrassing. "R-" I coughed, hacking up a deliciously gross wad of drool. I looked away from her, my head turning and tilting towards the ground. I let the drool drip, then, I licked my lips. I looked back up at her. "Rowan." I said, my voice gruff as usual, and painful to hear in my mind as ever. "My calling is Rowan." I wheezed out quickly. I got to my paws nervously and started to back away, my large, tri-coloured tail in the orange, black, and blue-gray curled up between my thin, agile, black legs. I turned ever so slightly, ready to high-tail away the second she laughed. The second I heard her barking humor at my voice. It always happened. It was why I was so alone, though I despised being so alone. My fleeing, my voice. All of it. |

Her comparison to Ayame, this male seemed shrunken in side next to her lanky stature. Granted, her long legs gave her an extra boost, but generally males could come close to her height, if not surpass it by an inch or two. And his voice…it wasn’t much of a surprise why he was so reserved and refused to speak at first. Hah, she couldn’t really blame him. Usually she jumped at the opportunity to joke at the expense of others, but this time, she bit her tongue and kept her remarks to herself. Why? Well, she was feeling slightly sympathetic. The poor thing would probably run away crying if she made any sort of snide remark. Even if he tried to escape regardless, she would be able to easily intercept his movements and block him from going anywhere. Speed was her specialty and she wasn’t about to get him get away that easily.
Hmm, so his name was Rowan. It was a respectable name, but to her liking, but it didn’t seem to fit him very well. She wasn’t about to judge the names of others, but it was just her simple-minded opinion. ”It’s, uh, nice to meet you, Rowan.” Her voice was steady and smooth in comparison to his, who lacked all that she had. Her tone was a bit awkward, and she didn’t know why. Ayame was never one to let herself get uncomfortable in situations. What approach could she take that would be deemed appropriate? ”Are you feeling all right? Your voice—“ Before allowing herself to say anymore, she stopped, figuring she crossed the line into offensive territory. ”Sorry, sorry, I didn’t mean—“ Now she was just stumbling over her words like uneven ground. This was abnormal for her and didn’t like to expose such flaws in public. ”You’re lucky, she said in a harsher tone this time, ”usually I’m not as gentle with my next meal.” She tilted her head back and exhaled a throaty laugh. She was kidding, of course. Even on her most ambitious of days, she wouldn’t ever consider taking down another canine to dine on.
Feeling satisfied in her final attempt of...whatever she was trying to do…she slumped down onto the ground in a sitting position. ”You know, sir, it’s not polite to interrupt a lady when she’s sleeping.” Ayame was certainly more on the outgoing side, where as this male seemed to be the most reserved animal on the planet. She had seen rabbits more outgoing! Ears perked forward expectantly, assuming he would have a lot to say about her attempted antics.

I was reserved, watching her without relaxing. I would be aware of any threatening movements she would make against me. She complimented my name and my lip curled a bit in a partial, soundless snarl. My lip relaxed after my brief moment of distaste. I dropped my head a bit in defeat as soon as I recognized the question coming out from between her teeth, tongue, and lips. It wasn't that offensive, just upsetting and tiring. I listened as she fumbled out apologies, thinking simply about how she was beginning to bother me and I surprised myself by laughing at her next comment about me, being a meal. Normally I would've taken something like that seriously, and fled, but this time I just didn't. "I've had this voice for as long as I dare to remember." I rasped, wincing at the hoarseness of my voice, I never got used to that bark-on-bark scratching noise that originated in my throat and flowed with my words. I raised my head to looked up at hers, her being larger than myself. " Sleeping too long will get you killed." I remarked simply at her final words. I'd waited for her to shut up before I commented about anything, and now it was my turn. "Especially out in the open, so I guess we can say you owe me." I stood up as tall as I could on my four legs, now feeling more relaxed in this position with a stranger. My grey/orange/blue tail flicked, making a woosh noise against the air as it puffed up. "Also, why would you ever show any care to a meal. There is no point since you are just going to eat them anyways, and torture is a cruel and soulless way to kill. |

Ayame noticed the look of displeasure and what seemed to be annoyance appear on the male’s features. He sure had some nerve, making such rude implications. She wasn’t one to really condemn about manners, but it bothered her till no end. She was actually trying to be civil, and he had to go and make it difficult. Conflicted, however, she planned on making the best of it. Other life forms seemed scarce and she did not know the next time she would make an encounter with another canine.
When hearing his explanation about his voice, still as raspy as ever, she nodded in slight recognition to what he said, but decided to not dwell on the topic. His comments regarding her snide remarks earlier weren’t really amusing her, but she took it all in stride. Eyes narrowed, watching him closely—the femme retained a laugh, finding his attempts of intimidation to be humorous. Her height was larger due to her lanky limbs, but that was about all. Her body type itself was often much more fragile than other, more strongly built wolves, which always put her at a disadvantage.
With a small shrug, she decided to puncture his ego. ”You know, making yourself look bigger isn’t going to scare me.” It took more than a little fur puffing to make her run and hide. Besides, it was he who had seemed to be afraid of her. Grinning at what she heard next, she lower her voice to a barely audible whisper; ”Maybe I like torturing my prey,” she cooed, with venom dripping in her voice. ”I could give you a demonstration.” She was joking of course, but she put on her best act. While speaking, she crept close to his still frame and spoke so closely to his ear that he would be able to feel the warm seeping from her breath.
notes; sorry for the shortness. ><
